The Black Robe

This movie was fascinating. It was refreshing to see how two different cultures saw things so differently. How one saw even the smallest human need as something so despiteful, yet the other saw it as something so belonging to them. Father Laforgue wants to convert these people into more civilized people (or make the natives think they way the Jesuits do) because in this religion’s eyes it Is the way to go. There new world can be seen as profane because, profane can be seen as something unholy. In the native’s eyes, nature was their sacred place and it was their way of connecting. On the contrary, the Jesuits though about the after life and did not really consider that to be holy.
