Megan Project: Sugar Skulls

I went to Mexico awhile ago and purchased this skull. I thought it looked pretty cool but had no idea the meaning behind it. I asked the guy I bought it from and he told me they are called Sugar Skulls and represent the Day of the Dead. They are big part of Mexican culture. Their is a ton of backstory about them but here is one important detail, Ancestors who have died are represented by the skulls and are then placed on the grave in hope that the loved ones will appear on the Dayof the Dead.
