Every once in a while you’ll look at something and think why? This image was taken at Starbucks one late night after a long study session, and poses the the following question. What purpose does such an intricate logo serve on a cup of coffee? My best guess would be that Starbucks, is using pathos just like religion. A church or cathedral might have certain paintings or designs that portray some sort of divine energy, that gets people going. Places of worship usually have Buddha, Jesus or some other holy figure painted or depicted somewhere. Starbucks has this mermaid all over its walls, signs, and cups. I’m sure a whole lot of people see this image and associate it with coffee and the buzz they get. Just like others might see Jesus and immediately think about praying, and good fortune. Both religion and Starbucks use imagery to bring people together.
