Meagan Project: The Seal

So, we pass this thing every single day on our way to class, but never ever step on it.
I think the seal is a really strong instance of a taboo. It is perceived to hold so much power, that by merely stepping on it, we will delay our graduation. The only way to cleanse oneself is to circle the seal backwards, three times. Even if one isn’t superstitious, there is a moment of unease when you realize you have broken the status quo and trekked across the seal. Sometimes, this unease is perpetuated from the gasp of a friend. I have accidentally stepped on the seal more than once in all my freshman glory, and yes, I walked backwards every time. As embarrassing as it was, I’d rather not risk it.
