In this article, Trump announces that he would like to meet with Pope Francis during his time in Italy for a G7 Summit in Sicily. This summit is supposed to take place on May 26-27th. Questions arose earlier when the travel itinerary revealed that the usual stop for the meeting between the Pontiff and the POTUS was not noticed. This may be due to the fact that these two figures clashes in the beginning of Trump’s presidential campaign over conflicts about the infamous wall that Trump is trying to build. Secretary of the Press, Sean Spicer, did comment that the meeting may not take place at all.
However, my question is, if the meeting does take place, how would the issue on immigration affect the future relationship between the Pontiff and the POTUS?
