This is the house of the Virgin Mary in Izmir, Turkey. I photographed it several years ago on a trip I took around Europe with my mother. This is a great edifice, having dated back eras before Christ. However it is known for being the home of the Virgin Mary in a country of Islamic faith. This has religious symbolism to me because every religion speaks of the same fundamental principals of peace and love; and this structure has stood the test of the ages. It was said historical figures such as Cleopatra and John the Baptist walked the streets of the city and resided in the household for some time. So many different faiths and ways of life passed through the building and the city, and no matter what the religious turmoil in the nation, it still remains a historical landmark of national and global importance.
