American Religion Has Never Looked Quite Like it Does Today (Huffington Post)

This article written by Antonia Blumberg discusses how American religion has shifted in the recent years.  She addresses several different main points and expands on all these topics with statistics. Some of her points include discussing how belief in God has wavered, how Christianity and church attendance has declined and how spirituality  has grown . She talks about how people have been identifying themselves as spiritual instead of religious. She  states “By many measures, religious practice and affiliation has greatly declined in the United States in the last 50 years. And yet spirituality, religion’s free-spirited sibling, appears to be as strong — if not stronger — than ever.” Another interesting topic she covered that I thought was interesting was the “megachurches” considering we live in south Florida with many megachurches. She states ” In 1960 there were just a handful of churches that might be described as “megachurches,” those with a charismatic senior minister, an active social outreach ministry and at least 2,000 people attending every weekend. As of 2012, there were roughly 1,600 megachurches in the U.S “. Overall this was an interesting read about the differences in religion today.
