Black Robe Review

The film “Black Robe”

The French priests were involved in the colonization business to convert the Natives to Christians. Father Laforgue goes on this long journey just to convert people. This journey causes a lot of conflict. Father Laforgue is placed with a bunch of people he does not know so he has his own views of the Natives. The Natives and French have strong opinions about each other. The French refer to the Natives as savages, and the Natives refer to the French as black robes. The Natives call the French black robes because it resembles to witches. Even though they do not share the same culture and traditions Father Laforgue tries to fit in, but still struggles. He slowly starts to understand their “ways” and his faith comes into question.
